Member Loops FAQ

Answers:

What are "loops"?

The loops are a Mothers & More service for our members. Via email, loops connect members with each other. The loops serve as a support system where members can write to other members across the country on specific subjects. Mothers & More offers a wide variety of loops on different subjects. The loops are a way to build a network of members who can communicate around the clock. While the loops are run "by our members, for our members" there are two rules: No soliciting for business purposes, and use of proper cyber etiquette. Please keep in mind that these are open forums for members to use as support system. This means that you may read opinions that may differ from your own. Everyone has the right to express their views in a respectful way, unless they break the two rules stated above.

How do they work?

The loops work like a bulletin board from your email program. A posting to a loop is a basic email message that will be sent to every member in that particular loop. In return, you will receive every posting sent by all of the other members. You do not have to reply to every message. You can reply to either the whole loop or just to the sender. If you join several loops, you may want to change the way you receive your messages. You can do this by going to your Yahoo Groups page (see section "How do I join"). The two choices are: individual emails and "daily digest". By choosing individual emails, you will receive every message posted. If you select "daily digest", you will receive one email a day with a list of message topics, followed by the messages.

How do I join?

The Mother & More loops are currently being provided by Yahoo Groups. Any Mothers & More member with an email account can join a loop. To join a loop, send an email to the address listed for that loop. This will trigger a process by which Yahoo Groups will send you an automatic email leading you through the process of registering for that email loop. The best way to administer your own loops is to setup an account with Yahoo Groups. This is free service and will allow any member to edit her information herself. If you have trouble joining, please email rlforms@mothersandmore.org for help.

How many can I join?

Current Mother & More members can join as many loops as they like. Doing so may generate a lot of email. If you know how to create filters and folders in your email client, you may find that helpful in managing several loops.

How long does it take to get added to a loop?

Loop Moderators are Mothers & More volunteers. They are also busy moms! It may take up to a week to get added to a loop. If you have applied to a loop and have not heard back for over a week, please email the Loop Manager at rlforms@mothersandmore.org. Please specify which loop you subscribed to and the date you subscribed.

How can I change my email address for the loops I have joined?

The suggested way to use the loops is by becoming a Yahoo Groups member. This will allow any loop user to change her information at any time. This will reduce the amount of time the Moderator needs to spend making changes. Please keep in mind that Moderators are busy with subscribe and unsubscribe requests, as well as moderating the loop itself. Therefore, joining Yahoo Groups may make the loop experience a better one for the user. If you are unable to do this yourself, email the moderator of the loop by sending an email to (Loop email address)-owner@yahoogroups.com.

What is the role of a Loop Moderator?

As mentioned above, the Loop Moderator is responsible for moderating their loop. They are in charge of monitoring the messages that get posted in the loop to be sure that the loop does not become a victim of spamming, unpleasantness and the rare virus. They are also responsible for subscribing and unsubscribing members and helping members to troubleshoot their loop memberships. They are also responsible for welcoming new members and keeping the conversation going.

How do I become a Loop Moderator?

Ideally, each loop should have two moderators. If you are interested in becoming a moderator, check the volunteer page on the members only site for moderator openings or email hrteam@mothersandmore.org. Some moderator positions may not be listed if the loop has at least one moderator.

What if I have an idea for a new loop?

Email the Loop Manager at rlforms@mothersandmore.org with your idea and whether or not you are willing to moderate. All loops need a moderator before they can be created. All loops are created centrally by the Loop Manager.

How do I resign as Loop Moderator?

Ideally, as a Loop Moderator you should start trying to find your replacement 30 days before you plan to leave the position. First, contact the Loop Manager to let her know you will be stepping down as Moderator and will be looking for a replacement. Next, you should advertise on your loop for the open position. Pass along any applicants to the Loop Manager along with any impressions you have of that member.
