Taking Action
Here are some of the ways members can participate in Mothers & More’s
consciousness-raising and advocacy work.
- POWER Loop — A
members only e-mail loop that
explores mothers’ lives, realities and issues through topical
discussions and interactive interviews with guest authors and experts.
- Annual
Mother’s Day Campaign — members
can participate in activities at both the chapter and national level,
in order recognize the social and economic value of the caregiving work
all mothers do, beyond the cards
and flowers and breakfast in bed.
Many chapters host special programming at meetings, conduct activities
in their communities and connect with local media to talk about what
their chapter and Mothers & More in general does to improve the lives
of mothers. At the national level, there are “virtual events” in
which members can participate, and national media outreach to publicize
mothers’ issues
and the value of caregiving work.
- Web-based events and activities — members
nominate outside entities, from time to time, for Apple
Pie in the Face awards
and Apple of Our Eye awards.
And we also conduct web-based
surveys of members and the public, on occasion, to get data on mothers’ thoughts,
concerns and lives. Many of our virtual events also include email-writing
campaigns.
- Local advocacy & community outreach — chapters
and their members connect with others in their communities to talk
about and work on the issues that mothers face, and to connect with
other groups of mothers in their communities, around mothers’ needs
and issues.
- Advocacy & Community Outreach Resource Loop — this
email loop is available to members who are their chapter’s advocacy
and community outreach chair, or anyone who is interested in advocacy
and community outreach activities in their chapter, to exchange ideas,
challenges and best practices.
